2nd hand hardback wrapped in a sleeve with faded spine
Born in Exeter in 1842, Amos Baker Matthews was to become one of the most influential and respected Methodist preachers of his time. A man of extraordinary courage and conviction, he worked for a time as a journalist, but quickly found this to be a frustrating career. He determined to do something more than just write about the evils of the world and, in 1864, was appointed a minister of the United Methodist Free Church.
More than a biography, AMOS is also a detailed history of Methodism: of passionate and resolute faith at a time when the politics and religion of the nation were undergoing perhaps their most traumatic and testing time.
