Christopher Irvine is Canon Librarian and Director of Education at Canterbury Cathedral. He has written and lectured on art and theology, and has a particular interest in the place of art in worship. He teaches on the Liturgy MA programmes at the Mirfield Liturgical Institute and Sarum College. He is a member of the Church of England's Liturgical Commission, a trustee of Art and Christianity Enquiry, and Vice Chair of the Alcuin Club. This book brilliantly demonstrates the meaning of worship as the making of Christians. The first part of the book explores the theological sources and resources from which we draw this understanding of Christian liturgy, and presents the Word-that is, God's call to become what he is seeking to make of us. The second part looks at the formative effect of worship on its participants, particularly in sacramental celebration, specifically baptism and the Eucharist.
